International Sauna School – South Estonia

Feb 13, 2026

We are pleased to invite participants from around the world to take part in the International Sauna School experience, a 7-day intensive training programme held in South Estonia and led by experienced sauna practitioner Helen Moppel.

The course welcomes a small group of 6–7 participants, ensuring a focused learning environment and allowing for a deeply personal and experiential process.

The International Sauna School offers a rare opportunity to explore the ancient Estonian sauna tradition through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice. Rooted in Finno-Ugric cultural heritage, the programme approaches sauna not merely as a physical activity, but as an embodied cultural practice that supports wellbeing, community connection, and respect for nature.

Programme Focus

The Sauna School is an experiential training programme that brings together traditional knowledge, healing practices, and personal development through the art of sauna keeping. Participants learn how to prepare and maintain different types of saunas, understand the role of heat and water in restorative practices, and develop the skills needed to guide meaningful sauna experiences for others.

The curriculum introduces both historical and contemporary approaches to sauna rituals, including herbal traditions, breathwork, body awareness, and community care. Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship between sauna culture and the natural environment — a connection that has shaped Estonian identity for centuries.

Why Participate?

Deep personal experience
The programme encourages reflection and balance. Sauna becomes a space for slowing down, listening, and reconnecting — with oneself, with others, and with the surrounding environment.

Professional development
Graduates gain practical competencies that can support future work as sauna keepers, facilitators, or cultural practitioners in community settings.

Cultural knowledge
Participants develop an understanding of how ancestral traditions can remain relevant in contemporary life, carrying forward practices rooted in respect, sustainability, and collective wellbeing.

International network
The programme brings together people from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in traditional knowledge and cultural practices. Participants become part of an emerging international network dedicated to exchanging skills, experiences, and inspiration.

The International Sauna School connects people through heat, water, breath, and storytelling. Beyond practical skills, it offers a meaningful encounter with one of Estonia’s most enduring cultural traditions and invites participants to carry this knowledge into their own communities.
